Most people would know to treat kids with kindness and patience. After all, a kid isn’t about to just do whatever you want because it’s smart or right. Yelling at a kid is the fastest way to get them to start crying. And yet-

“Stop being so lame! Our! Parents! Aren’t! Here! Stop trying to be, like, a mega-nerd and actually do cool stuff. It’s not going to make a difference!” A teenage Asuka is towering over a her younger self, who is about five seconds away from bursting into tears from where she’s seated in front of a book.

“B-But! I… Stop being so mean!” The little girl with oddly rumpled, somewhat mismatched outfit and a rather messy braid is actually bursting into tears, nevermind. Rather than show any sympathy or shame, Asuka just continues to glare at the kid like she’s done something to personally offend her.

“Ugh! You’re so stupid!!!” Honestly, it’s kind of hard to tell which one is less mature, but it’s certain that whoever was nearby would be unable to ignore the combination of wailing and screaming coming from the learning area. It seems as though neither is particularly likely to get along on their own, and they’re going to make that everybody’s problem.

R.N.A.

“Asuka? Why… are you yelling at… this child?” R.N.A. normally wouldn’t be so forward about intruding, but something about a crying child certainly made them more prone to act than most. They cannot help but themselves between the two, hoping that maybe a bit of separating would quell the problems here.

It seemed as though Asuka was taking issue with everything that this younger version represented. They did share some similarity in appearance… though it was clear Asuka had changed over the years.

R.N.A. decides to put their attention on the crying child, crouching down to get a little closer to their height. “It’s… alright. What book are you… reading?” Perhaps asking a question might help Fasuka calm down a little.

The sound of R.N.A.'s voice is enough to get Asuka to actually pause, stopping her verbal attacks on the literal child in front of her. She doesn’t look very pleased, but considering everything she can at least try to calm herself. R.N.A. is mostly sort-of-cool after all.

“She’s being dumb. She still thinks she can impress her parents by being a goody two-shoes. That’s not how things work. She’s just wasting her time.” As she speaks, Asuka can’t help but turn to glare at FAsuka, who still looks very upset by all of this.

With a quick glare towards the real Asuka, the sniffling child quietly holds out the book for R.N.A. to see. FAsuka figures if she doesn’t speak, she can’t be in trouble. Nothing she says seems to help her. Little Daruma and Little Tengu is the title of the book shown to R.N.A. Judging from how old FAsuka looks like, it’s technically just a bit too old for her, but she’s trying to read it regardless.

Ah, thank goodness. R.N.A. knew that Asuka was at least reasonable, all things considered. Sure, she may have had a tendency to flare up, but she didn’t seem like a bad person at her core. Though they still didn’t want her to behave this way towards a child. They needed to be a little firm about this.

Asuka Fukuda “She’s being dumb. She still thinks she can impress her parents by being a goody two-shoes. That’s not how things work. She’s just wasting her time.” As she speaks, Asuka can’t help but turn to glare at FAsuka, who still looks very upset by all of this.

With the way Asuka spoke, any doubt that this wasn’t a young Asuka quickly vanished from R.N.A.'s mind. Perhaps this was part of the reaction, too. It could be hard to look back at your past, especially if you were trying to avoid doing so.

“I understand… you might be frustrated… but yelling at her… won’t change things. It’s just… making her upset.” R.N.A. says, tone firm. “I’m sorry… to be so forceful… but please try to calm down.” Ah, yes. Saying ‘please’ is a sure sign of force. “I can… mind her, if… if it is… painful to be around her for you.” An offer made in good faith, though R.N.A. wasn’t sure if Asuka would be willing.

With that out of the way, they feel free to focus on FAsuka.

Asuka Fukuda Little Daruma and Little Tengu is the title of the book shown to R.N.A. Judging from how old FAsuka looks like, it’s technically just a bit too old for her, but she’s trying to read it regardless.

“Ah… That is… a wonderful book selection.” R.N.A. replies, gently peering over the top to check the content. Ah… yeesh. This was definitely far more advanced than necessary, right? “It looks… a little tough to read. Are you sure you wish… to read such a hard book? What made you… want to read this one? Do you like to read?” R.N.A. asks a few questions, trying to get a little more info on what choices had led FAsuka to read out of her skill level. They tried their best to communicate a gentleness and interest with their tone and body language, though it may have been hard due to their… robotic appearance.

On any other teen, the words likely wouldn’t have been that effective. On Asuka, however? Being told by R.N.A. to try and calm down clearly doesn’t land with her well, judging by the sour expression on her face, but she does keep her mouth shut. The most she does is shoot FAsuka a little glare. FAsuka glares back, even though she’s trying to shrink away.

Still, FAsuka does seem to try wiping her tears away as she prepares to speak. It seems, even at that age, she has some semblance of pride she’s determined to keep.

“Uh-huh! I’m s-smart!” Even with her sniffling and nervous glances towards the still-pouting Asuka, “I gotta be the best! My parents will be s-super proud of me!” There’s a hint of determination there, despite how simple Asuka’s words are. “So I have to read it, and I’m gonna read it!”

FAsuka moves the book closer to her chest, seemingly nervous about what’s going to happen now. That pride didn’t last too long, it seems. Asuka scoffs at seeing the child’s reaction, unimpressed despite the girl’s age.
