Abel squishes her hands around his arm against his side for a moment- needing the extra reassurance in the pressure. He knows how this family is. Even if this isn’t his tape- He knows this might be something gruesome.
It. Really is quite easy to minimize your own trauma when you’re surrounded by all the evidence your ancestors got it worse- after all.
He looks to Viper, giving a grim smile, before putting it in.
At first it struggles. The damage is a real issue. It tries to play a lot of things and can’t seem to give visual or more than bits of audio until it settles on a scene.
A large beautiful cathedral blooms around them. At first it’s hard to figure out who the tape is focusing on- there’s many people who share resemblances to Abel wandering around the place. Especially for what’s clearly a time service isn’t likely to be happening soon. After a moment fifteen year old Abel can be spotted leaving the confessional. He looks… Distraught. Very similar to how he looked at the end of the other tape. He isn’t very far out of the booth before an elderly man descends upon him.
He’s clearly in his seventies- his hair white at the roots and bright red towards the ends. He wears a cross like the one Abel wears. Clearly he’s related- and Abel bristles as the man approaches him.
It’s clear they have a strained conversation. Abel doesn’t seem to want to talk to him and the man seems very overbearing and… like he knows where to hit Abel to force information out of him.
But the tape is damaged and the whole scene can’t be made out. It turns too quickly into another scene entirely.
It’s Abel again, shirtless this time. The same old man stands behind him holding a weapon that cannot fully be seen in the distortion. He strikes Abel in the back with it and he doesn’t make Any moves to defend himself. He just looks pained and resigned.
The full scene isn’t forced to play, luckily. The damage is too great and it forces the tape to end there. Nothing else could be made out.
It’s too hard to make out exactly what occurred without Abel’s explanation but he doesn’t immediately offer it. He just looks pained. Resigned. Guilty.
Anger flashes up and he tears the tape from the Treevee and throws it with his good arm Hard into the water. He hopes that destroys the rest of it too.
But the message from Neko-Neko is clear to him. An extra Dig at him for daring to attack them earlier. A reminder of his place. He gets angry?
He gets Hurt.
He doesn’t even remember Viper is there right at that moment.
